2008.03.16. New Brunswick Ringette Champions18th Annual Provincial Ringette Tournament
It was truly fitting that the championship game (tweens) in the 18th Annual NB House League Provincial Tournament was disputed by both Dieppe teams.
And for the fourth tournament in a row, Dieppe (Paul) edged out Dieppe (Christine) in the deciding game to claim the honours (this time by a 6-3 score).
The Champions started off the tournament by tying Memramcook 5-5 (Camille getting the tying goal with less than 20s left in the game). They then squared off against Dieppe (Christine) and squeaked out an 8-7 win (they led at one point in the first period by a 6-1 score but Dieppe (Christine) mounted an impressive comeback to tie the score 6-6 with all of 10 minutes left in the game). In their final round robin game, they overpowered Riverview 8-1.
The top 6 teams in the province were vying for top honours. After the round robin portion, 4 teams moved on to the semis: Dieppe (Paul), Dieppe (Christine), Riverview and Memramcook.
Dieppe (Paul) faced off against a much improved Memramcook squad in the semis. The game was very even throughout but the Champions prevailed by a 5-3 score to move on to the championship game (leading at one point 5-1 in the middle of the second period). For their part, Dieppe (Christine) took care of Riverview by a 9-6 score in the other semifinal.
In the championship game, Dieppe (Paul) led 2-1 at the break. Dieppe (Christine) scored two quick goals in the middle of the final period to take a 3-2 lead. Dieppe (Paul) stormed back with 4 unanswered goals in the final 7 minutes of the game to cap off a heck of a ringette season for both Dieppe tween teams.
Dieppe teams also took top honours in the novice, junior/belle and open divisions. Championship games were contested between Dieppe teams in both the novice and junior/belle divisions: Dieppe (Pierre) won out over Dieppe (Wendy) in the novice division and Dieppe (Marc) defeated Dieppe (Roland) in the junior/belle division. Both Dieppe petite teams lost out to Kent-Sud teams in the petite semifinals.
Overall, this was a tremendous showing for Dieppe teams at this year's House League Provincials (winning 4 of the 5 age group divisions with 7 of the 9 Dieppe teams reaching their divisional championships - the other two losing in the semis).
The season at a glance
It was an impressive season throughout for Dieppe (Paul). In 5 tournaments, they claimed 4 gold medals and a bronze. In those 5 tournaments, they tallied a combined record of 22 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss. In the other 25+ games they played this year, they only suffered two losses, both coming with only half the squad present due to conflicting schedules (novice and petite players suited up in these games).
The other Dieppe tween team (Christine) had a similar impressive season reaching the finals in their five tournaments and suffering most of their losses to archrival Dieppe (Paul).
Congrats to the players, the coaching staff and the parents (of both Dieppe tween teams) for a remarkable season.
2008.03.09. Home tournament Champions24th Annual Dieppe/Riverview Ringette Tournament
Dieppe (Paul) defeated Dieppe (Christine) by a score of 5 to 4 to capture the 2008 Dieppe/Riverview tournament (tweens) over the weekend.
The tournament had its usual big turnout. 17 teams in 4 pools made up the tween age group (7 from NB and 5 each from PEI and NS). The tournament also featured 12 bunnies teams, 18 novice teams, 20 petite teams, 20 junior/belle teams and 8 open teams.
Dieppe (Paul) advanced to the semis by winning their pool with wins of 6-4, 3-2 and 7-2 against Kent-Sud, Charlottetown Ice Crushers and HSM Ice Dogs respectively. In the semis, they faced the Silver Pool winners, Cole Harbour K9s, and over-powered them by a 9-1 score. Then, for the third straight tournament, they met archrivals Dieppe (Christine) in the championship final. The two Dieppe teams finished with Gold and Silver out of 17 teams! Riverview and Cole Harbour each came away with Bronze.
2008.02.10. Champions again3rd Annual Kent Sud Ringette Tournament
Dieppe (Paul) defeated Dieppe (Christine) by a score of 9 to 2 to capture the 2008 Kent Sud Ringette tournament (tweens) over the weekend.
Dieppe (Paul) finished the round robin in first place in their pool (2 pools of 5 teams in the tween division) with 3 wins and no losses to advance to the semifinal (wins by scores of 10-3 against Memramcook, 9-1 against Shediac and 15-1 against Rogersville).
The Champions barely escaped the semifinal against home team Kent Sud (3-2 score) and advanced to the Championship Final against archrival Dieppe (Christine) for their second straight tournament.
The Kent Sud tournament featured 4 divisions (novice, petite, tween and jr/belles) of 2 pools each. All 8 Dieppe teams (2 in each division) reached the semifinals where 6 of them made it to the finals in their respective divsions. Of note, the tween division (10 teams) and the jr/belle divsion (13 teams) featured all-Dieppe finals.
When the snow settled, Dieppe teams came out champions in all divisions, Dieppe (Wendy), Dieppe (Roland), Dieppe (Paul) and Dieppe (Marc) repectively in the novice, petite, tween and jr/belle divisions. Very impressive showing for the Dieppe Ringette Association.
